Spring's Beginnings Branch Necklace

Spring's Beginnings Branch Necklace

This one-of-a-kind organic tree branch necklace has been fossilized in sterling silver and set with an abalone cabochon at its center, and three luminous pale pink freshwater pearls and granulation beads caps at each of its three ends.

The branch necklace centerpiece is approximately 2.5 inches (6.35 cm)  in width and is suspended from a simple 18 inch (45.72 cm) sterling silver chain.

A unique and whimsical piece that you will turn to again and again.

This necklace can be shipped within 1-2 business days in a white cotton-fill gift box ready for gift giving or to keep for yourself..

The Process:
Many years ago, I figured out a way to melt down my scrap silver and "fossilize" twigs and leaves, where I capture both the image and its organic texture.  For leaves, I coat only the back of the leaf where the veins are most prominent, in layers of silver.  These layers are then heated evenly so they fuse together, burning away the leaf entirely, but leaving its image and texture in the solids sterling silver.

For twigs, it is the same process, however I coat the entire twig with layers of silver, and once the layers fuse together, the twig burns out, leaving behind its image and texture, but also leaving the silver fossil hollow on the inside. I clean out the twig of all ash, fill it back up with sterling silver wire that is used to create the necklace and some molten silver that hardens as it fills the hollow twig, making it a solid piece.

You never know what you are going to get!  Sometimes a leaf lays flat, and sometimes it curls. I let the leaves and twigs dictate what they want to do and work with the design it gives me. Every piece is unique, and just like nature, no two pieces are ever alike, but each design captures nature's beauty and elegance.
